NEW YORK - Kalshi, a platform designed to reward people for correctly predicting the future, has launched an investigation after discovering that someone may have committed the unforgivable offense of actually knowing what would happen instead of conducting sophisticated analysis and being wrong.

The scandal erupted after traders correctly predicted Donald Trump's selection of Katie Zacharia as White House press secretary. One particularly suspicious individual wagered just $19 and stood to collect $1,896, suggesting an alarming shortage of ignorance.

In Las Vegas, turning $19 into nearly $1,900 on a long shot is generally called winning a bet. In prediction markets, it apparently constitutes a potentially devastating threat to American democracy.

"This is a serious threat to market integrity," explained a Kalshi compliance officer. "If you study the evidence, analyze the probabilities, and confidently predict the wrong person, you're a sophisticated trader. If you already know who's getting appointed, you're a threat to democracy. Same market, different amount of guessing."

Officials emphasized that prediction markets depend on participants incorporating information into prices, provided that information doesn't become so useful that someone actually makes money.

Investigators are examining whether nonpublic information was involved, raising a troubling question for an industry built around monetizing informational advantages: how much information is too much information?

Kalshi reassured customers that sophisticated forecasts remain welcome, particularly those supported by elaborate statistical models, impressive credentials, and absolutely no knowledge of what is actually going to happen.
