# Trump-Xi Summit Produces Historic Agreement to Keep Having Trump-Xi Summits Until Something Happens

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping concluded three days of high-level diplomacy Friday with a major breakthrough: an agreement to continue attempting breakthroughs at additional high-level diplomacy.

The summit produced little movement on trade, Taiwan, AI, Iran or the other issues that necessitated holding the summit, successfully preserving enough unresolved problems to justify several more summits.

“This was extremely productive,” said one senior official, pointing to a calendar now containing substantially more diplomacy than before.

The most concrete achievement was extending the existing U.S.-China trade truce by two months, giving both countries additional time to negotiate a longer agreement establishing how much additional time they will need to negotiate.

Trump and Xi drank tea, attended ceremonial events and toured the National Archives, presumably to examine historic agreements from the primitive era when diplomatic meetings occasionally resulted in one.

Xi also confirmed that the leaders expect to meet twice more before the end of the year, an ambitious expansion of bilateral relations that could eventually make U.S.-China diplomacy one of the world’s largest producers of U.S.-China diplomacy.

Officials stressed that merely preventing relations between two nuclear superpowers from deteriorating further was itself meaningful progress.

Markets reportedly welcomed the development, relieved that the United States and China had successfully postponed finding out what happens when they stop postponing things.

Negotiators will now begin preparing for the next summit, where officials hope to achieve the diplomatic milestone of scheduling the summit after that.
