Unitree Robotics — Initiating Coverage: BUY
Price Target: Whatever Comes After 857x Earnings
Following Unitree’s spectacular public-market debut, we are raising our valuation framework to reflect several fundamentals previously overlooked by traditional accounting.
Most notably, the company’s humanoid robot can perform a two-meter standing jump.
We therefore believe investors should abandon outdated metrics such as free cash flow, margins, and return on capital in favor of more appropriate robotics multiples:
- Price-to-Earnings: 857x
- Price-to-Vertical-Leap: 428.5x per meter
- Enterprise Value-to-Backflip: Not meaningful due to limited comparable data
- Forward Dancing Multiple: 73x
- Martial-Arts-Adjusted EBITDA: Strong
- Total Addressable Kicking Market: Essentially unlimited
Our previous model undervalued the company by assuming a robot capable of jumping two meters should be valued similarly to one capable of jumping only one meter.
This was obviously naïve.
We now apply a 75% premium for “athletic optionality,” plus an additional 40% strategic uplift because management recently demonstrated that the robot can punch things.
Risks include competition, manufacturing costs, technological obsolescence, slowing demand, and the possibility that investors eventually remember what 857 times earnings means.
However, none of these risks can currently perform a roundhouse kick.
Rating: OUTPERFORM.
